it's fitting
Leans them both to the left, leans them both to the right, stands straight up and sticks out his tongue. ]
...I don't see it. Was it still doing the thing?
sniffles... rokkun... cute
scandalous... rokkun has no shame... dummy... )
Senpai! ( she scolds him, half-hearted, a little too distracted to pay proper attention; when he leans them over, she finally looks at the mirror, and how it seems to be following his actions precisely, for once.
... of course when he's looking, it's working, just to make her look extra crazy. she doesn't need any help with that, thank you. )
Ugh... it works now, but I know what I saw! It was definitely a little behind!!

Maybe it's just shy? Let me do this, then.
[ Eyes closed, he reaches out, pressing the entire length of his body against Rika's back so he can reach the mirror and touch it with the tip of his finger— everything reflected in the glass freezes in that moment, him, her, the rest of the bathroom left in complete stasis even as he leans back again and gives her room to breathe. Eyes still closed. ]
Did that do anything?
no subject
but for now, she does actually try to keep her gaze on the mirror, watching as his arm comes up over her shoulder and the tip of his finger touches the flat surface. her eyes widen, then — as her reflection freezes, along with his own, her mouth hanging open as she tries moving about. will him opening his eyes bring the life back to their reflections? probably.
curiously, she reaches over, pressing her fingers against the mirror, as much as she can with him still holding onto her. )
Don't open your eyes yet.
no subject
What is it? What do you see?
[ The same scene in the mirror, like a photograph of seconds— minutes- past that doesn't keep moving even after she touches her fingers to the cool, smooth surface of the glass.
Rokkun's reflection looks the same as always, chin resting comfortably on Rika's head, fingertips pressed against the mirror, eyes closed. Rika's reflection looks the same as always, squashed between a shameless teenage boy and the bathroom sink, eyes open— eyes that follow her when she moves, unblinking— then snaps back in place to resume the stillness. ]

instead, she closes her eyes and keeps her fingers pressed against the flat surface. something tells her he won't be able to see what she does — but she wants to make sure, before she drags him to see... something else. )
C'mon, open your eyes and see for yourself. ( if he acts like she's insane, she'll know enough... )
no subject
I see a cute kouhai and a bloodied senpai.
[ He lets go of her then, placing a hand on her head and steeping to the side to wash his face off at the other sink. ]
...We shouldn't stay here any longer than we need to.
no subject
... whether that fails or not, she eventually withdraws her hand and nods. this place... gives her the creeps, honestly. )
Actually, I wanted to show you something.
no subject
Rokkun lifts his head up from the sink, wiping his face off with his sleeve instead of grabbing paper towels. ]
What is it?
no subject
but, well, no matter. she's still got one thing to check, and she needs him to help out, so — as soon as he's done wiping his face with... his sleeve instead of paper towels like a normal, civilized human being... she grabs his hand and drags them both out of the bathroom, towards her locker. )
See, I dunno why, but there's some mirrors in there... they kinda appeared randomly one day, but, uh. ( she opens the locker, and takes one out, peering into it as she stands next to him. ) ... can you close your eyes and touch this one, too?
no subject
Like she continues to sound like, because if there's something in your locker doesn't that mean you put them there... Rika... But he doesn't say anything, he just follows after her and enjoys her hand in his while it lasts, until she asks him to do something weird again.
Okaaaaaaayy. Sure. He nosily glances inside like what secrets does Rika's locker hold... but then he looks down at his reflection in the mirror. He closes his eyes and touches the tip of his fingers, still damp, to the surface of the mirror, whereupon the image freezes even after he pulls his hand away and turns towards Rika expectantly, waiting for her to say he can open his eyes again. ]
no subject
peeking into the mirror as everything freezes, she hums, thoughtful. looks like all mirrors do the same thing — and only when a non-transfer student touches them? how... odd. )
... ah... ( it stays frozen, even when he withdraws? she blinks, a little surprised, bringing the mirror up. maybe she can see something behind their backs... ) Oh, you can open your eyes now.
( will it stay frozen even when rokkun looks? )
no subject
...
What is he seeing here, Rika, tell him. ]
Is this your way of saying my face is messed up...
[ Whose fault is that, huh ]
no subject
... okay, she's just gonna reach over to his face and cover his eyes once more real quick, just to see if the reflection freezes — )
Don't worry — if I thought that, I'd say it upfront, Senpai. ♡
no subject
Can you say upfront what's happening now?
no subject
( she huffs, poking him in the forehead before taking her hand away. she stands there for a moment longer, staring into the reflection. what's behind it? )
Do you ever wonder if it's you looking back from the mirror, Senpai? Or just someone who looks like you, pretending?
no subject
...Sometimes I look at my reflection and ask myself who this is. It's not exactly the same thing, but...
[ A boy with his face smeared with blood, with wet bangs and a cute girl by his side. Who is this? How did it come to this? ]
no subject
I used to look in the mirror and wish I saw anyone but me. ( her voice is quiet, thoughtful; she puts the smaller mirror back in the locker and takes out the bigger one instead, holding it up.
... you already know where this is going — )
It's fine not to know, right? We're still young. ( she smiles, and... just drops the mirror in front of him, letting it crack and shatter. )
no subject
Rokkun is nothing but shadow before her, silent and faceless but the mirrors-- the shards of glass reflect sky, they reflect trees, they reflect a boy bouncing a soccer ball on one knee and then the other and counting silently under his breath, a boy asleep at his desk with a sketch of a floorplan under his arms and a pencil still in his hand, a boy who stands at the edge of a riverbank with his shoes off and pants rolled to the knees but wet anyways as he picks up a rock and washes it of silt and frowns and places it back in the water to search again. ]
no subject
well, that's really neither here nor there, and she can return to that later — for now, she's faced with an afterimage of him, a still, quiet shadow, looming over her and the scattered mirror shards. she looks down at them, squinting; no matter which angle she tries, they seem to be reflecting something else, entirely, and after a moment of confusion, she kneels down to take a closer look, cradling one in her hands carefully.
a boy, his dark hair tussled by the wind. the moment she sees him with a soccer ball, she has a good inkling of who it might be — his face rounder, stature shorter, obviously younger than the current rokkun. she watches, silently, as his memories flash in the shards; one by one, exploring more of his past, showing her more of him; she's not sure why, but there's a longing feeling wedged in her chest, like she wants to reach for something that's far too distant to ever be caught.
those aren't her memories. this isn't her life. so why does she feel sad for him?
glancing over at the shadowy figure, she pushes herself back up to her feet, grabbing one of the shards and wandering off to search for another. did it show her his memories because his blood had gotten on it, or will any shadow's past be revealed in the mirror? the moment she spots someone, she approaches them carefully, bringing the shard up to their chest, and peering into it curiously. )

Rika: watch this
She holds the shard of glass up to the shadow and it reflects nothing— there's nobody there but blank walls and battered doors, an empty hallway, a setting sun casting long shadows on the other side of the window. On the other side of the mirror, there is nobody there. But here, where Rika stands, shadows of students mill around the halls; Rokkun's has already turned away from her, as if she doesn't exist, and is drawn towards the front doors and the great forbidden outdoors. ]
no subject
so there's nothing — that's what she expected, honestly, turning around to go back to rokkun's shadow, which is now moving towards the door. she's... never actually seen what happens when the shadows go outside — when anything goes outside in the void, really, so... carefully, she'll follow him, clutching onto the mirror shard in case she needs to smash it and escape. )
no subject
there is nobody there. ]
no subject
... nowhere, apparently; his shadow passes through the wall and dissipates, as if it never existed. a little lost, she returns to the broken mirror shards, squatting next to them with a dazed expression. do they show her anywhere else, or remain empty? if there's nothing left to see, she'll crush one in her hand, making herself bleed — she has to collect them, still, in the normal school. this is for a reason! )
no subject
Rokkun gives her a look like he wants to say seven years, bro, but he's not going to say it again. ]
