I used to look in the mirror and wish I saw anyone but me. ( her voice is quiet, thoughtful; she puts the smaller mirror back in the locker and takes out the bigger one instead, holding it up.
... you already know where this is going — )
It's fine not to know, right? We're still young. ( she smiles, and... just drops the mirror in front of him, letting it crack and shatter. )

Rokkun is nothing but shadow before her, silent and faceless but the mirrors-- the shards of glass reflect sky, they reflect trees, they reflect a boy bouncing a soccer ball on one knee and then the other and counting silently under his breath, a boy asleep at his desk with a sketch of a floorplan under his arms and a pencil still in his hand, a boy who stands at the edge of a riverbank with his shoes off and pants rolled to the knees but wet anyways as he picks up a rock and washes it of silt and frowns and places it back in the water to search again. ]

well, that's really neither here nor there, and she can return to that later — for now, she's faced with an afterimage of him, a still, quiet shadow, looming over her and the scattered mirror shards. she looks down at them, squinting; no matter which angle she tries, they seem to be reflecting something else, entirely, and after a moment of confusion, she kneels down to take a closer look, cradling one in her hands carefully.
a boy, his dark hair tussled by the wind. the moment she sees him with a soccer ball, she has a good inkling of who it might be — his face rounder, stature shorter, obviously younger than the current rokkun. she watches, silently, as his memories flash in the shards; one by one, exploring more of his past, showing her more of him; she's not sure why, but there's a longing feeling wedged in her chest, like she wants to reach for something that's far too distant to ever be caught.
those aren't her memories. this isn't her life. so why does she feel sad for him?
glancing over at the shadowy figure, she pushes herself back up to her feet, grabbing one of the shards and wandering off to search for another. did it show her his memories because his blood had gotten on it, or will any shadow's past be revealed in the mirror? the moment she spots someone, she approaches them carefully, bringing the shard up to their chest, and peering into it curiously. )

Rika: watch this
She holds the shard of glass up to the shadow and it reflects nothing— there's nobody there but blank walls and battered doors, an empty hallway, a setting sun casting long shadows on the other side of the window. On the other side of the mirror, there is nobody there. But here, where Rika stands, shadows of students mill around the halls; Rokkun's has already turned away from her, as if she doesn't exist, and is drawn towards the front doors and the great forbidden outdoors. ]

so there's nothing — that's what she expected, honestly, turning around to go back to rokkun's shadow, which is now moving towards the door. she's... never actually seen what happens when the shadows go outside — when anything goes outside in the void, really, so... carefully, she'll follow him, clutching onto the mirror shard in case she needs to smash it and escape. )

there is nobody there. ]

... nowhere, apparently; his shadow passes through the wall and dissipates, as if it never existed. a little lost, she returns to the broken mirror shards, squatting next to them with a dazed expression. do they show her anywhere else, or remain empty? if there's nothing left to see, she'll crush one in her hand, making herself bleed — she has to collect them, still, in the normal school. this is for a reason! )

Rokkun gives her a look like he wants to say seven years, bro, but he's not going to say it again. ]

You know, Senpai, people normally don't dive in to save mirrors. ( and now she's made him bleed twice in one day...
but this one was his fault so technically it's all on him. ) And now you're making a mess again... what a pain ~ Your kouhai has to keep looking after you ~ You're so hopeless ~ ( she complains, as she squats to start collecting the mirror shards. listen, they're useful, though she's careful not to cut herself on any, because she does Not want another trip to void school right now.
the image of his memories lingers in her mind. somehow, she wants to know more about the boy collecting rocks in the river. )
no subject
Who's hopeless? At least wrap your hands in this first.
[ She can be careful as she wants picking the glass up, but what after? An errant soccer ball can come flying and they she'll be in trouble.
He could help pick the glass up, but no... He just watches her, hand to his mouth and sucking on the cut on his hand until it stops bleeding. ]

( she insists, but accepts it regardless. it is safer to collect the shards with material wrapped around her hand... and when she's collected all shards big enough, she stuffs a few into her jacket pocket and throws the rest into her locker.
she looks up at him then, smiling down from the ground. )
Out of commission yet, or should I keep going?
no subject
Being around you keeps me going. Was there something else you needed to show me, or can I have my ball back and see if I can make it to practice?
no subject
( imma be real with you here i forgot about the ball entirely so i'll just say she... kicked it along from the bathroom because i can say that and nobody can dispute me on this. )
I'm okay now!! Take care at practice, 'kay? You're injured. ( she reaches forward to brush her thumb over his nose, expression a little thoughtful. after a moment, she turns to the side to push the ball towards him. )
no subject
He scrunches his nose because it's still a bit raw, but takes his ball back with a thanks and he's going to go out and murder with it, thank you ]
