[shakes head] It's not for fun. It's a responsibility. If Ritsuka is gone to wherever people go after you take them from us, Hyde needs somebody to tell him what to do.

[rubs at her eye] S'fine. I just need to sleep more. Maybe when I don't have to sleep on the floor anymore, I'll do better.

Responsibilities can be fun too. They say the best job is one you enjoy, don't they?

[ Look at him. He gets to lounge around and snack and chat all day, watch some kids cry, it's a great job. ]

Would you like to take that beanbag with you in the meantime? It'll be a lot more comfortable than the floor, and a good, restful night's sleep helps revitalize all parts of a person— physically, mentally, and spiritually.

[ He's not even going to pretend to think about it. This isn't a charity. ]

Nor any possessions that you can't spare— I won't need them. Payment can come in the form of other, less tangible things. You're a bright girl, you'll think of something. And it's an open offer, as long as you need it.

Strangely, not many people take me up on that offer. Memories are typically such coveted things... though there are of course memories a person would rather forget. You have them too, don't you?

I wouldn't give up my worst memory for anything. [even if now her worst memory is less "one time my friends were really mad at me" and more "people I loved and trusted did several murders.] I'd sleep on the floor forever if that was my only other option.

What about the ones in your head you don't believe are yours?

[ She has those too. Memories of her life here- ones she considers fake, not hers, the self in them not her. Would she give those up? The familiarity she might feel with other people that extends long past the 4-ish months she's been aware of being here, the overlapping and contradicting memories. She has no need for those, does she? Give them to him. ]

But I do care. They continue to affect you, after all, even if they aren't real. It doesn't matter if they're good memories or bad, important or unimportant. They're still there, they still shape you, and so I care.
