07. chiaki, may
( komaeda asks, peeking over her shoulder at the painting she seems to be working on. the thing about her art is that it's hard to actually figure out, it's too abstract... or picasso? it's a style that he's unable to make heads or tails of who it is, so he always defaults to the same name every time he thinks of her artistic abilities. ) Must be Sena-kun so you can give him a token of your love.
( he says this carelessly, loud enough so that anyone in the classroom will hear, but they already know about her undying devotion to him so it's no secret. ) It's a shame, that he doesn't remember who you are... and you both go way back.
( a pause. )
I wish I could understand the feelings behind it.
no subject
Huh. I thought out of everybody, you'd be able to understand it, being unwanted and—
[ Ugh, no. Insulting Komaeda is just insulting herself, if they're supposed to be her feelings too. So she makes up for it by prodding Komaeda in the cheek with her paintbrush so he can stop being so close, leaving a glob of bright sky blue paint on his cheek and if she """accidentally""" pokes him in the eye, oh well. ]
no subject
( don't get him wrong, he does understand being unwanted and unloved and not having a place in the world, but he knows the sole idea of having these positive relationships mean nothing. short-lived and all. )
I remember loving, because hope remembers me — ow!
( and he closes his eye after getting poked there, flinching as he leans back a little with a laugh. is this his bad luck for understanding how to love someone? who knows. )
About yours... I'm curious if it'll be the type of hope to encourage Sena-kun. ( he's here to wingman! )
no subject
Do you really think so? When you've got somebody watching you and looking up to you and expecting so much from you, you've got no choice but to do better, right?
[ Which is... some form of encouragement. ]
no subject
( the person that komaeda cares for doesn't want much use from him at all, really, want nothing of his help. in chiaki's case, her romance is a little better than komaedas, but his love isn't exactly love — think of it as an obsession he can't let go. )
It might work for Sena-kun, though, he seems confused. ( he sighs, shaking his head. ) Rather than work on yourself, why not help him where he lacks.
( he thinks it'll do them both some good. )
no subject
...I see! I get it! Komaeda, you'd better come with me!
[ Come on, come on, let's go, she pokes him in the back with her paintbrush ]
no subject
( why would he leave with her knowing how she has a pension for beating him up, but he's not against her attacks... )
I was enjoying your art, and I think it'd be a shame to leave it behind like this.
( besides, when has she kept a positve attitude with him? this seems like something that happens moments before a disaster. )
no subject
[ Come on, buster. She pokes him a little harder in the back. She jabs it right against the spine and gives it a little twist. ]
See, he's lacking in proper friends. So I gotta clean out the trash and leave only the best.
[ Sorry, but Izumi becoming friends with you is too much of a threat, we've got to nip it in the bud. ]
no subject
If you want to help him, you should do it alone.
( the thing about komaeda is that he only helps people's "hope," but anything outside of that isn't really his business. sure, trying to help their relationship was one thing, but he was only giving his thoughts from what he say that one time. it doesn't stop him from following right beside her since he doubts she's going to budge from the idea anyway. )
You wanted him to "open his eyes," but even I'm not use when it comes to that. Bringing me along is a waste.
no subject
Silly, I'm not bringing you along to help me. I said, I'm taking out the trash.
[ Will doing something like this open Izumi's eyes...? Maybe. ]
You want to help him, don't you? Why else would you come here?
no subject
( but they're the same, so she could do something more than him, but komaeda doesn't mind assisting from time to time. it's not hard to understand that in the end, he's not really izumi's friend, he's nothing at all, and so it's not like he's competition to her. )
That's where you take part. ( he pauses, looking at chiaki with a smile. ) Taking me out would be a waste of time, when you could apply it to him instead...
no subject
That's such a copout answer, Komaeda. Somebody with talent doesn't need your help; they've got talent. If they succeed, it's got nothing to do with you. And the talentless are doomed to fail so you don't even try?
no subject
( he trusted a certain someone's sister, and even though she failed him, other people sure can try — it's why he's so hellbent on seeing what sort of hope that chiaki can bring about. ) It's why I believe you can help Sena-kun.
( isn't this motivating? besides, komaeda is doing his best to be detached? please don't try to understand his fickle motives that sometimes don't make sense. )
Sometimes... you all disappoint me, but it's a learning experience. Especially you, Kudo-san, if you want him to open his eyes, you have to assist with that. ( he nods, believing his own words. ) I'm also playing my part, I do think he's learned a lot about you from the way his hope has been leading him.
no subject
Do you think so? What has he learned? What does he want to know about?!
no subject
( everything about them is shrouded in mystery, and even when they try to remember there's nothing there to point them in the right direction. all they know is to open their eyes, or to go along with what they say to avoid any possible unfortunate incidents. sadly, they're all not the type to let things like that go. )
...If you allowed him to know anything about you and him, I'm sure he'd be amazed by the details.
( it doesn't have to be anything big either, but i think it'd put a lot of things into perspective for him. even komaeda's not trying to pry in their relationship to ask for the specifics, instead he's trying to open that avenue for izumi instead. )
no subject
[ Any little thing would do... But it can't be her telling Izumi directly, that's not how it's supposed to work, and she can't just dump her whole life story on him either or else there's no stringing him along.
No, she's got to be subtle about this. ]
Alright! It's decided. I'm going to paint him pictures and post them all over his locker and his desk!
no subject
( everything about them, their stories, their lives, this gap between them all. it's not like the transfers are doing this on purpose, no, if they had it their way then they would remember. it becomes difficult when they're placed in this position, and when there's nothing they can do to fix it. i can fix him who? you can fix us meme! )
What about paintings of the past? ( not like anyone will be able to make them out, with how.. obscure and abstract they are... it's like cracking da vinci code. ) It'll show him how far your feelings have come...
( please tell me this means izumi's going to get random ugly pictures on his ic contact, i'm crying. )
no subject
Oh! That's a good idea! So you have those sometimes too, huh?
[ She turns away from him, giddy with excitement and shoving her WIP to the side so she can pick up a new canvas and fill up on the yellows and blues. ]
I'm going to need lots and lots of red~
no subject
...What happened to your secret stash, Kudo-san?
( or is that a nickname she was trying to give komaeda... huh... huh... of course, he doesn't mind though if that's what she's getting at. )
Are your cult friends on vacation... how sad, I thought they'd always be here for the Art Club...
no subject
We're not friends; we just use each other.
[ It's a business relationship, with a little bit of exertion and ransom sprinkled in here and there. ]
no subject
( he starts, looking at the female with a smile, little does she know to him this is very important — the way they work together between one another. it's a sort of relationship that the transfer students haven't unlocked, and komaeda can't reject the idea of hope right there in front of him. )
Are you unable to see them now, or do you want me to rip myself open? ( he says it without a second thought, even though izumi was scared to — komaeda is a different breed, and has been through more than enough to do it. )
no subject
[ To which question? the latter one, because she hops over to him and waves her hands in his face as if to banish the thought. ]
Don't do that here! You'll get blood all over everybody's art and you can't just wash it off!
[ If you're going to bleed, do that somewhere else, go away ]
no subject
( he's raising his hands to, grabbing her wrists so he can pull them down out his face. )
Did you want to do the honors? We can go together!
no subject
They're the ones that do it, not me. I wouldn't know how to make it stop.
no subject
( since blood is so important to them, of course she'd be stingy with everyone else. with a sigh, he looks towards the exit of the art room. )
"They're"... do you mean your cultist friends? Hm... You want me to go visit them and come back?
( as much as he could, komaeda's pulling out a switch blade from his pocket, unsheathing the blade in sight right in front of chiaki. ) Wouldn't blood from the source... untainted by anyone else's hand be much better? ( yeah, he's looking at his hand just like that. ) Even someone empty and useless as me can give that much.
