9/6, akki
You have pretty good attendance don't you, Fujioka-kun? You're here practically every day, so I guess you must be the type who's dedicated to your studies.

It's a half eaten onigiri that sits on his desk today, temporarily forgotten with Akki engrossed in a handheld game. He doesn't even register he's being spoken to until Amami says his name, and he looks up in surprise.
quickly glances down to pause his game, and then looks back up. ]
I don't know about dedicated... but yes, I come every day unless I'm sick, since it's hard to catch up if you miss a day. Why?
no subject
amami feels a bit bad for interrupting the game actually, but he's glad when akki gives him the time of day anyway. )
It's more than most people can say. ( and listen, he's not just talking about himself either, but he'll shrug it off. )
I'll be honest, it's kind of hard to think about focusing on grades in a place like this, so I guess I find it pretty impressive.
no subject
Yeah... [ yeah........ ] It'll be the same anywhere you go, though, right? There will always be a lot to worry about aside from grades... but you have to do your best anyways, if you want to survive outside of school.
no subject
Yeah, that's true. Most of the time schools will make it pretty easy on you though, with clear-cut minimums for what you need to do to move on. It's easy to set it aside and focus on the rest.
( even his last murder school was upfront about what they wanted from you, but he makes a kind of vague, open gesture with one hand, as if to illustrate that as for this school? )
Don't think that's the case, here.
no subject
... ]
Are you worried you haven't met the minimum to graduate, Amami-san?
no subject
( what was it they'd told him before?
... )
I heard that last year, you only had one person graduate.
no subject
...As long as you're engaged, you should be fine. School isn't entirely about grades, after all.
[ Jocks have it pretty nice... Sometimes you're soccer club captain and don't have to worry about grades. ]
Last year was pretty rough... But we've got a good class this year. I think we'll be okay.
no subject
( he looks like he's thinking that one over. )
Do you wanna define engaged for me?
( when you not only skip class, but you're a part of the resource-leech club and an unofficial club, so you don't even have that much going for you... )
no subject
[ What is Amami even doing here ]
Participating in things, interacting with others, making your time here meaningful. That sort of engagement.
no subject
Oh, that doesn't sound so bad.
( if you can put all your points into "talking to people" then maybe he'll scrape by. does hunting down mysteries count? akki will probably look at him with an even more ... expression than whatever he already has if amami asks that though, so he'll laugh it off. )
Haha, sorry. I'm not actually too worried about grades or anything, but I figure it's good to have a frame of reference.
no subject
[ He doesn't really, but figures it's an easy way to move on from the conversation. Which he's kind of surprised he's having with Amami, figuring he'd have plenty of friends in his own class to hang out with— or maybe not, if he's never there.
... ]
Did you do alright on finals? The second semester is graded a whole lot stricter, especially for the third years.
no subject
It's not a big deal to me either way — at worst, I'd just repeat a year. I guess I'm not trying to stay as long as Clamor or Lucifer though.
( a bit of a laugh. sorry clamor, lucifer, but you are a little old for high school. )
no subject
Both of them are smart, so they don't have anything to worry about. [ ... ] -—not that you're not smart! I'm not saying that!
[ wait, no, forget that faux pas, he's sorry ]
What I mean is— Students who fail second semester finals... [ He looks up at Amami, a brief, but rare moment of eye contact, hoping Amami will understand. ] They don't come back.
no subject
Hm. So that's how it is...
( he looks like he's weighing his thoughts. why won't anyone ever just say when they're talking about people dying... )
Seems like there's a lot of unwritten rules in this place, huh. ( big sigh, looking back to akki. ) I don't suppose they're practical exams?
( school activity terms ain't looked the same since the stuco election, not gonna lie. )
no subject
It depends on the year, for the most part... how the classes in general are doing, I mean. If students are doing well, sitting exams is all there is to it. If too many are struggling, the teachers may hold a practicum instead. And like I said... I think we're doing okay.
[ You want practical exams? Sabotage your entire grade level and then we'll talk. ]
no subject
If that's what you meant by us having a good class then I guess I should be grateful, but I feel kinda like I'm getting by on your hard work now.
( he leans back and that thoughtful expression shifts back to something more casual again. )
Welp, that decides it. Looks like I'll have to start coming to class more often in that case.
no subject
It's not like my grades are the best... [ Glasses and attendance do not make a person smart. ]
What do you do when you're not in class?
no subject
Oh, plenty, but none of it's all that interesting. You know, just transfer student stuff.
( #littletransferstudentthingz... which is his way of explaining that it's "things that will make you look at me like i'm insane" without actually setting off the look. or, well, that's what he's going for. )
no subject
... ]
You know what? It's okay! I don't need to know.
[ He doesn't want to get involved. ]
no subject
( jeez! akki acts like they're Like This on purpose or something, he can't not defend himself here. )
We're doing our best in our own way too, y'know. It's not like we're getting a lot of help.
no subject
... ]
Is there anything I can help it? I'm willing, if I'm able to.
[ within reason ]
no subject
( with a smile, he'll meet akki's eyes. )
If you're willing to keep me company sometimes, I'd appreciate it.
( saying "friends" might be getting ahead of himself, but... that's the direction he'd like to head. )
no subject
S-sure... [ He does one of those nervous tight lipped smiles before dropping his gaze. looks back up ]
I can't skip class with you, though. The pop quizzes will end me, otherwise.
no subject
I don't mind, since it looks like I've got a bit to catch up on too. ( unfortunately!!! )
Lunches or after class, just let me know when you're free. I feel bad if I'm interrupting.
( glancing to wherever akki's game has disappeared to. )
