CHARACTER INFORMATION
Name: Ritsuka "Gudako" Fujimaru
Canon: Fate/Grand Order
Canon point: Post-Ooku Event
Age: 18
History: This summary covers everything up until the Final Singularity, but the wiki does not document Ritsuka's history past that point.
After resolving the seventh singularity in Ancient Mesopotamia, Chaldea finally moved against Solomon, tracking him down to his Grand Temple of Time, fighting through hordes of infinitely regenerating Demon God Pillars with the help of the people Ritsuka had bonded with throughout the singularities, and eventually unmasking Solomon to reveal his true form: Goetia, Beast I and the collective will of the Demon God Pillars. With the combined sacrifices of Mash and Dr. Roman, who was the real Solomon, Ritsuka killed a depowered Goetia herself with the Around Round Shield twice and was rescued by a revived Mash, who Beast IV, aka Fou or Cath Palug, traded his sentience and power to resurrect.
Following the Human Order Incineration Incident, it was found that at least four Demon God Pillars escaped the Temple of Time before Goetia's defeat, and the Remnant Order was established to hunt them down across the four Singularities they created (along the way, Ritsuka was briefly pulled into an alternate world to aid the Counter Force alongside her acquaintance, Miyamoto Musashi). When Ritsuka's Servants were unsummoned and control of Chaldea handed over to its new director, Goredolf Musik, the forces of the Crypters—the seven original masters meant to tackle Singularity F that were recruited by the Foreign God and make way for a new Age of Gods—attacked Chaldea, forcing Ritsuka and the remaining Chaldea forces to flee in an Imaginary Numbers Space vehicle called the Shadow Border as the Crypters killed all of humanity and bleached the planet's surface.
The Shadow Border resurfaced in an area known as the Russian Lostbelt, a space where an alternate dead end history supplants Earth's real chronology around a massive alien Tree of Fantasy, and Ritsuka discovered that in order to save Proper Human History, she would need to cut down each Tree of Fantasy and destroy the worlds that they brought into existence with them. With the help of her servants and the rest of Chaldea, Ritsuka first cut down the Russian Tree of Fantasy, cut down the Scandinavian one while following a mysterious distress signal, and found the last bastion of humanity in the aptly-named Wandering Sea magecraft base, where she recuperated for a time while resummoning the rest of her servants. However, Tamamo Vitch aka Koyanskaya, an agent of the Foreign God, botched a poisoning attempt that still threatened Ritsuka's life, and so she was forced to immediately set out to the Chinese Lostbelt to find a cure, where she cut the tree down and began orienteering towards the Indian Lostbelt after dealing with the threat of a new Beast in the Tokugawa Singularity.
This is all ten sentences, and I am so, so sorry for her canon being so complex.
Personality: Rituska Fujimaru is extraordinary because, despite everything that's happened to her, she has remained (mostly) ordinary. Throughout all of her trials across space, time, and places without either of those, she remains the person whose only impulse when trapped in a collapsing room was to hold the hand of a dying girl while the flames ate everything around them.
If you ignore her many scars (which she usually hides with makeup anyways) Ritsuka is the picture of an average teenager. Cheerful, friendly, flippant, and a fan of manga and anime. The strange thing is that unless the situation becomes unwinnably dire, this attitude never fades; and even then Ritsuka remains nigh-unflappable until something pushes her to the emotional brink, her usual lackadaisical attitude replaced by a quiet, steady seriousness and a determination of steel to keep fighting until the end. This isn't to say that she's incapable of fear—far from it, really. It's just that somehow, through a will of her own and a veritable conga line of traumatic events, she has the ability to push past it while very rarely letting it overcome her entirely.
Likewise, Ritsuka thinks of herself as a fundamentally ordinary person with nothing special about her other than being at the right place at the right time. As far as she's concerned, she's nowhere near special or even competent; she's just supported by the most extraordinary people (and that word is quite limber considering how far she stretches the definition) in, outside, and around human history. Ritsuka's perception of herself is deeply skewed by the company she keeps; while by all accounts she's a fast thinker, athletic, and strong-willed, her only real option is to compare herself to the most powerful beings in the cosmos in all respects, so she has a tendency to downplay her own achievements and abilities. However, Ritsuka still views herself as an important person by necessity. If she steps down or gives up or dies, who else will do her job? The unfortunate answer is that nobody else alive is capable of doing what she does due to the sheer coincidence of where she was when the command room exploded; Ritsuka Fujimaru is humanity's last Master, and the only reason she's still standing is luck.
Part of the reason why Ritsuka has survived so long despite her ordinaryness and squishiness is that her primary philosophy is "roll with it." If someone offers her help, no matter how fishy it seems, she'll take it. If something outside of her comprehension unfolds before her eyes, she won't waste any time wondering "why" or "how" and will move on according to the situation—which often involves running and the occasional quippy comment. While this attitude has rendered her vulnerable to mental suggestion and manipulation and makes her a rather reactive person, it's helped her far more often than it's hurt. This "roll with it" attitude also extends to how she sees the various beings she meets: if it acts like a person and talks like a person, to Ritsuka Fujimaru, it is a person, no matter how little they may fit the definition otherwise. This means that Ritsuka shows at least basic human kindness and cares for almost everything that she meets, no matter how illogical it may seem—while she's hardly a sweetheart unless she's talking to Mash or someone who's sweet to her, she still cares for everything and anyone who she thinks deserves it. "Rolling with it" also implies forward momentum, which she has in spades. Almost nothing can stop her, not even overwhelming grief and despair at losing the entire world and the only home she's known for two years, as long as she even has the slightest will to keep going.
But beneath this bleeding heart is a single, powerful urge that drives all of Ritsuka's actions: the instinct to survive, no matter what. At the end of the world, beyond time and space, when a full-blown Beast and Evil of Humanity who had just obliterated two of her closest allies asked what motivated Ritsuka to drive him into a corner, she only had one thing to say: she wanted to survive, no matter what. While saving the world is nice, and saving her friends even better, Ritsuka is motivated by survival first and foremost. This is the reason why she's willing to tear down the Lostbelts and all the people within them; if Proper Human History vanishes, so does she. What's more, she has a sense of duty to everyone who's brought her all this way and died for it, she has to carry that weight along with her—and she's likewise keenly aware that all of the people she's willing to erase have their own need to survive. Even though it would be leagues easier to never interact with the locals of the Lostbelts, Ritsuka still takes the time to get to know them, help them, and even save them, because she feels that if she doesn't carry the weight of their memories forward into the future, she'll be betraying them somehow and become the kind of monster she's been fighting this whole time.
Powers/abilities: Ritsuka's only supernatural ability lies in her magic circuits, a special organ mages possess that channels their mana into magic. She was unaware that her circuits even existed before she joined Chaldea, and they've been compared to that of Lord El Melloi II/Waver Velvet's, i.e. of just enough quantity and quality to perform basic spells but not much more than that. She hasn't had the time to learn much magecraft or magecraft theory, either, although she can cast a basic Gandr spell and, of course, make contracts with Servants.
Beyond her pathetic magic ability, Ritsuka is fairly—although not extraordinarily—athletic, and is shown to be able to fight off a human Roman soldier in one of the anime adaptations. (Of course, she's very, very good at running.) She's also quite hardy and able to take quite a few mundane hits, and even survive injuries from bullets. Ritsuka also has solid survival skills due to spending not-insignificant amounts of time roughing it in the wilderness in singularities the past two years, and she has a wide pool of knowledge that primarily contains tidbits of trivia that she's learned from her Servants and her time living in history. If you have a problem, there's a chance that Ritsuka will at least know something that might be able to help due to the sheer amount of trivia, miscellaneous skills, and life experiences that are rattling around inside her skull.
Also, she knows high-level ninjutsu like log replacement. Thanks, Kotarou.
Questions:
✽ What does your character consider to be their top three strengths?
I know this doesn't sound very impressive, but running, surviving, and rolling with the punches. Those might not seem like much, but when you're in situations like the ones I've lived through these past two years, any skill under the banner of "not dying" is really helpful.
✽ What do others consider to be your character's greatest weakness?
Being weak. That seems smarmy, but it's the truth. A lot of people think I'm really weak physically, mentally, magically, and honestly they're not wrong. But even though they're not technically underestimating me, I have a tendency to exceed expectations anyways just because of the friends I have.
✽ What are your character's three greatest fears?
Dying is the biggest, obviously, but other than that... letting everybody down, I think, especially Roman and the old Da Vinci, and... ha. The lahmu. I still have nightmares of those things more than a year later.
✽ What would your character choose for a last meal?
Anything made by the Chaldea Kitchen Team, no contest. Literally history's best cooks and I refuse to believe otherwise.
✽ Has your character ever killed? If so, how did that affect them? If not, how would it affect them?
...Everyone can quibble about how it isn't really my fault, but I know for a fact that if I gave anybody the order to just back down and walk away, those Lostbelts would still be standing; so yeah, I've killed a lot of people even if I didn't put a knife in their guts myself. It's sorta like what Jeanne talks about. I led them into battle, so all of the blood that's on their hands is on mine too.
I try not to think about it too much, but I need to carry that weight with me, or else... I'm afraid that I'd turn into a monster.
✽ If your character was given one selfish wish (eg. must be applied to themselves and not affect others), what would it be?
One more week on regular Earth. No singularity, no Lostbelts, just me in a normal world. Is that not selfish enough? I mean, it'll need to end so I can fix everything back in reality, but... going back home would be nice.
Sample: Gudako gets repeatedly punked by a mystery student and is pretty okay with it, actually.
Notes: It'd be rad if there were any events that dealt with Ritsuka's massive (as in around ten million or more, if you count cutting down all the Lostbelts like she does) bodycount, or anything that'll let other people revisit her memories for a real wild ride.
ACCEPTED
Midway through spring break, your character will receive a ping on their PDA to let them know their homeroom has been updated for the new school year. Ritsuka's homeroom is now 2-A, her locker number is 051, and her student ID number is 556943. The inside of her left wrist bears the number 27 in tally marks, looking as if they were scratched into the skin. The marks are neither painful nor bleeding, but are sensitive to the touch, as if the skin is in the process of healing— and will never fully heal.
Please complete the following to be accepted into the main community:At some point during spring break when Ritsuka visits the clock tower, she might find the corner of a piece of paper sticking out of a loose floorboard in one corner and pry it up to find a small hidden compartment about a foot by half a foot by an inch deep. The message on the paper is in atrocious penmanship with how shaky the lines are, but she can make out that it says, "i'll do what i can- dont let him get to you. be careful." It looks to be a response to something, but it was never picked up before school ended... No new notes appear during spring break, but Ritsuka may want to keep an eye on this place once school starts again!
