Personality:

Meng Yao is, for the most part, courteous. He endeavors to treat other people with the respect he wants to be treated and he's very, very eager to please. It's to the point that it's noticeable right from the start from those who interact with him. He's even had it viewed as a strong indication towards humility (Nie Mingjue for one telling him to stop being so humble and to stand firm/straight/tall like a man.)

It comes to no surprise that Meng Yao has, naturally, difficulty acting discourteous towards others from the onset of interaction. This remains true even when he's insulted, and for the most part he does his best to not become viciously impolite or easily riled up to anger. He succeeds almost all the time due to him growing up without much support after the loss of his mother, which has given him a strong nerves of steel. However, just because he doesn't become easily angered, hurt, foul-tempered, or the type of person to hurl insults back doesn't mean he can't.

Indeed, if someone does happen to anger Meng Yao enough, he can prove capable of shouting (as he does yell back to Nie Mingjue when he's criticized) or acting immensely passive aggressive. His brand of PA involves him mostly bringing up sore points or pointing out facts that are intended to hurt and/or make the target kindly shut it, as well as end the argument. This isn't limited to simple one-word sentences, but sometimes an elaborate exposition if he's feeling particularly riled up.

In general, Meng Yao is a private person who prefers not to tell many people his life story or involve others in his personal matters; especially problems and struggles. This is shown even earl on when he's working with the Nie Clan, and the only reason Nie Mingjue finds out is because he accidentally witnesses him being bullied. To make it even more incredible, instead of accepting the other intervening for him, Meng Yao ends up protesting it at first. After all, he doesn't want to become a burden to those he cares about or feels he's indebted to.

This, of course, also intersects with Meng Yao expecting little and hardly trusting most people. This is because of the judgment he's receive from strangers due to his upbringing and derision from his blood relatives. It also makes him more inclined to start betraying others for his own goals, believing it best he stands alone, and look out for mainly himself most of the time. If someone does happen to get on his good side or show kindness to him, however, he will try to 'spare' them from harm. Or rather, death.

Although it can be generally hard to obtain from Meng Yao as time goes on, he does feel a kinship towards those who treat him with kindness, and he will do his best to return that same kindness tenfold (like he does with Lan Xichen.) Even if he's not above lying to their faces, he truly cares about those he's managed to become close to since that can be literally counted on one hand. He also will tend to endure more from those he likes, even if it's abusive, up to the point of an attempt on his life or if they turn on him harshly to the point it's clear they had no regard for his life.

He's a masterful actor, capable of using his kindness and polite elements as a way to manipulate others into agreeing or listening to him. Though, he's not above using acting like a victim as a tactic, but that's because it's not a role he's unfamiliar with. In the end, he feels no regrets in weaponizing his weaknesses or strengths if it gets him what he wants.

At the end of the day, Meng Yao is who he is because he feels he has to have the personality he does to survive. Not to mention having to perform certain actions, which he expresses to Nie Mingjue when he's caught killing someone who treated him badly including to the point of taking credit for his efforts. Which of course leads to develop the tendency to desiring enough power which will allow him to rise high up in ranking so that no one will step or deride him ever again (though, he's certainly not even halfway towards his goal as of yet.)

Powers/abilities:

- Ability to use talismans with spiritual power.
- Can use spiritual power as a weapon (spiritual blasts), though it's rather weak.
- Can heal a little/send someone energy with spiritual power.
- Knows various, basic cultivation techniques (presumably including exorcising spirits and techniques above.)
- He has a blade called "Hensheng" that he can utilize it into a sharp, cutting whip with a bit of spiritual power.
- Perfect recall (not an ability per say he has photographic memory but figure I would list it here.)

Eidetic memory, intelligence, and power of observation. The first of those he considers to be his absolute best strength, however.

His upbringing hands down. He's the son of a prostitute and gets judged a lot of this by others; it's to the point it's also the number one insult when someone has become really infuriated by him or wants to deride him viciously...

✽ What are your character's three greatest fears?

Weakness, Dying, and eternal mockery for sure. Though, of the three dying was the greatest of them all.

✽ What would your character choose for a last meal?

A feast fit for a king. He figures he may as well go out having something crazy nice for once in his life.

✽ Has your character ever killed? If so, how did that affect them? If not, how would it affect them?

He has, definitely, due to the Sunshot Campaign. He's learned to become more ruthless because of it.

✽ If your character was given one selfish wish (eg. must be applied to themselves and not affect others), what would it be?

To have more spiritual power. It'd help give him a leg up in future situations and he's always preferred to have more power in general.
