[ I looked at the roster to see what class cultist-chan should be in and ruled out 1-C bc Clamor's there and they would fail all their classes and also ruled out 1-D bc Komaeda

so they can be in Nene's class, maybe somewhere near the back of the room and she can either recognize them or not ]

[ It's... Hikaru! I will make up a last name at some point and update the pages. They're glad she seems receptive, though, and they aren't bothering her, which gives them the confidence to sidle up next to her and peer into her pot as if they have any idea what she's even growing in there. All plants look the same when they're in baby pot stages... ]

Yeah! I was wondering if you knew how to grow herbs. That's a windowsill plant, right? Like, you can do it inside?

Most are! You can actually grow a lot of fresh ones in your kitchen and be fine with just using a bit at a time.

( she suspects nothing! no imp banishing or cult activities here! if they were part of the group believing that she's been bullied, she doesn't recognize them either... she's just happy to be having a bit of a.... relatively normal day at school. relatively. )

They grow really fast, too!! I like chamomile for that sort of thing.

[ A little bit at a time... That'd be perfect for daily business, but when you got a lot of murderous imps to banish all at one time? It's going to be tough. ]

What about basil? Does basil grow fast?

[ They glance down at the pot Nene's tending to ]

Is this chamomile...?

[ All they know about chamomile is sleepytime tea. Maybe sleepytime imps will make them easier to round up. They're willing to try anything at this point. ]

Basil... It takes about a month, I think. But the, uh, water here seems to encourage strong growth?

( nene shakes her head though. )

No, that's in one of the planters in the gardening clubroom. This is... coneflower, I think? It's an American flower. They look kind of like purple daisies!

[ They lean in a little further, squinting at the plant and trying to see it from all angles but that doesn't change the fact that it looks like a generic Plant to them. ]

Coneflower...? I've never heard of it.

[ It doesn't look like a cone? Who named these flowers?? they should be fired and Lucifer-senpai should take their place. ]

That's incredible, Yashiro-san. I bet nobody else would be able to tell the difference between this and a weed! I couldn't!

When it's fully grown, the pistil- the center part the petals grow around- is going to be larger and kind of like a dome? and the petals will wort of sloop downward, like a cone. It's still getting there, though- it was only planted a bit ago.

( also hey fun fact did you know purple coneflowers have been used for centuries as treatment for colds and cold symptoms? i just thought that was very interesting. )

I'm really excited to see how it grows!

[ All they know is that flowers are pretty and smell nice, any practical use is beyond them, let alone just how much variety there is in flowers. ]

Huh... Me too! I can't really envision it, so I wanna see it when it's all grown up! Will you let me know?

Of course!! ( she's so excited? plants!!! flowers!!! ) Oh- right, you were interested in herbs, right? Most of them are super easy to grow, they're really good beginner plants... but if you want, I just need the supplies, and I can handle it.

Yeah, I am! But, um...

[ Mm, they fidget a little, leaning away like they're trying to decide. ]

It's no good if I let you handle all of it— I'm not gonna learn that way, and I want to help too! It wouldn't be fair, otherwise.

I understand. ... So... I'll teach you about raising plants! And if you ever have questions, you can swing by the gardening club! If I'm not there, I'm sure one of the other members who have experience can definitely help.

( not that she wouldn't be there or anything... no where to go. no one to be kidnapped by. it's fine. she sure as hell ain't dying after all! )

If you get a starter plant at any store, you're going to want to repot it into a bigger pot with fresh soil as soon as possible, okay?

A starter plant... Like a peach tree?

[ Is that a starter plant? Like one of those already grown trees that's five feet tall and you stick in the ground outside and pray for fruit—- but no, as much as they like peaches, that's not what they need. It's herbs. Boring herbs that all look the same, like leaves, that smell nice but it's hard to tell one from the other by name if they're put on the spot. ]

...plants are so complicated...

No, no, like... you know how some stores will let you buy some herbs and stuff in plastic green pots? Those are starter plants!!! But a lot of people leave them in that pot, and it's actually not good for long-term stuff... some shopkeepers are hoping you won't know that though so when they die prematurely from no space and bad soil, you'll come back to try again.

... I would like to work with a fruit tree though someday. ( a little wistful sigh........... ) My house just doesn't have the room.

[ They look up at the ceiling like they can absolutely imagine themselves doing that exact thing, picking up a pot of mint from the store and picking off the leaves and then tossing the rest of the plant in the backyard when it's been stripped clean, never thinking it could be planted outside. ]

Mine doesn't either... It's an apartment complex anyways, so there's no space to do anything, not like here.

Do you think there's enough room in the courtyard for a peach tree? Like, once it's planted and everything, they can't just pull it out, right? That'd be mean.

Well, they do get kind of big... unless they're dwarf trees or semi-dwarves? But I think it could fit... I just don't know if we'd be able to protect it from the teachers and stuff. Hmm.....

( maybe... with the power of her big doe eyes and hikaru's general cuteness, they could team up and make it happen anyways! or they could smuggle a potted dwarf tree in somehow its fine they're fine. )

[ Here is the face of somebody who doesn't know dwarf trees are a thing. ]

Do you mean like bonsai? Are bonsai peach trees a thing??

............ I. Thiiiiink so? But that doesn't mean they'll actually grow anything... dwarf trees are basically trees that have normal fruit, but they're just... smaller, because space won't allow for them to get bigger. A dwarf tree is generally like, eight feet? And then semi-dwarves and regular trees are each bigger than the former!

[ EIGHT FEET FOR A DWARF and here they were thinking a normal sized tree might only be that tall. ]

The branches start wayyyy closer to us, so we'll get the low hanging stuff easily. And then we just need stools and stuff. ... Or a really tall person... ( hey dad- i mean, lucifer, can you help them get crime peaches? ) It sounds big but it's really not that hard!!

Actually, most trees in the city and stuff are dwarf trees I think, 'cause it keep them at a more manageable size. But they won't grow any bigger than they can, so...

Hm... I don't think I would mind it. It's super pretty, and having all that live right in the middle of school makes me really happy to see! I can't help but feel drawn to it, you know?
