[ Cute... oh no. She definitely eats it right away, because you don't turn down the opportunity for cake when it's right in front of you. In the meantime, she asks around the office for who left it there, it isn't one of her colleagues... ]

[She doesn't have to wonder for long. When she turns back to her desk, Kokichi's sitting in her seat, grinning as he gently spins in her rolling chair from side to side.]

Oh!

[ She breathes out a little noise of surprise, hand finding the space in front of her neck like she couldn't decide whether to clutch her chest or cover her mouth. ]

You sure surprised me, Ouma-kun. How have you been?

[ She'll just... stand next to her desk. It's his chair now. ]

[His chair now. Say hello to your new vice principal.]

Good! I got super lucky when I went to the vending machine and it accidentally gave me a bunch of cakes, so I'm sharing with all my favorites!

[adsum]

[ Imagine Kokichi as the vice principal... Miss VP would probably be glad for it, for as stressed and exhausted she frequently looks for having the job that she does. Running a murderschool does a number on you sometimes... but there are little spots of joy too, like being thought of by your secret favorite student and that makes her smile. ]

"Favorites," is it? Flatterer.

[ how could she not feel happy hearing that!! ugh ]

I appreciate it a lot. And I'm sure all your friends do too.

[He leans forward in his (her) seat, clearly so earnest and genuine.]

Eh? It's not flattery if it's true! Everyone likes Miss VP! You're super nice, and you always look like you're working hard!

[Is that laying it on too thick? Nah. She seems like the type who craves praise and her efforts being validated.]

[ LOOK sometimes you're attention starved and anxious about doing your best and nobody ever says anything like this to you because running a school is your job (it is not her job, she never wanted to be principal principal) and is expected of you and any amount of validation is a drop of water in the desert and makes you feel like crying a little.

She squeezes her eyes shut and presses the heels of her hands over them to make herself stop. Ssssssstop crying, stop. Not in front of her child. ]

It means a lot to hear that... thank you.

[He gasps and hops up, hands lifted like he doesn't know what to do with them. Y'know, like a kid who's just seen their mom cry for the first time and doesn't know what to do about it.]

Oh no, did I upset Miss VP...?!

[adsum]

[ The first time I saw my mom cry I immediately wanted to leave the room, miss VP never thought she would be on the other side of this and she also doesn't know what to do besides scrub her eyes and try to smile and will her nose to stop running. It's a good thing she keeps a box of tissues on her desk; she goes through them. ]

No, I'm not upset! It's quite the opposite— these are happy tears...

[ happy snot... okay she's going to blow her nose, she can't help that crying makes her nose run ]

This is embarrassing... I at least want to seem like I have my act together in front of my students.

[He shoos her back into her own seat, it's okay m'am he won't steal your job...]

It's okay! I mean, I never cry, but it's no good to bottle things up, y'know?

[He pats her on the shoulder before leaning in with a stage whisper.]

Aaand that's a lie, anyway. I actually cry all the time!

[Well. True, technically. How often it's sincere, though...]

[ It's sincere enough for Miss VP, who takes her seat back and holds a tissue to her face and tries not to frown too much when Kokichi tells her these things. ]

Who's making you cry...?

[ Bullying?? in her school??? ]

[He makes a surprised face, as if just noticing that he let that slip. Whoopsie!]

O-oh, don't worry!! No one at school! I have lots of friends here, I'd stay here aaaall the time if I could!

[adsum]

[ Not Kokichi being bullied outside of school!! Miss VP breathes out a little "Oh...!" like she isn't sure whether she should bring it up, but... but! ]

I'm glad for that, Ouma-kun. Keep your friends close, okay?

[ she tries to smile for him, but... mmm ]

Maybe this isn't my place to ask, but... Is everything okay at home?

[ Nobody wants to stay at school all the time unless the alternative is worse. ]

[A slight wince. Whoooops, did he imply something bad at home? He totally didn't mean to do that!]

You don't have to worry about stuff like that...! I mean, don't they basically have you doing two jobs right now? That's already too much...

[Can't be too forthcoming. That wouldn't be believable. He might not care about whether his lies are believed, usually, but that doesn't mean he doesn't know how to make sure they are.]

[ technically it's the homeroom teacher's job to hold parent teacher conferences, but in a school like this... ]

A school isn't only responsible for its students' education, after all, but their emotional and physical well-being as well. If you're struggling and need help, please don't be afraid to ask for it.

[His gaze cuts to the side, as if embarrassed.]

It's no big deal. It's just...loud. And stressful. And it's easier to do a lot of things here.

[Downplay, downplay. And then he plasters on a smile, one that's clearly strained around the edges.]

It's just easier to relax here, y'know? I'd have slept over here with Yashiro-chan during spring break if I didn't think I'd get in trouble!

[A shaky attempt at a joke. Y'know, because he's totally a nervous good boy who would never do anything to get in trouble. Not on purpose, anyway.]

[ She's painting a picture in her head of a stereotypical alcoholic father and a neurotic mother and a quiet little boy doing his best to keep his family together because that's all he has ): ]

Yashiro-san's circumstances were a bit...

[ The poor girl was bullied into it, Ouma-kun, she doesn't want the same for you!! She sighs a little, because the school supports after school clubs, but after that... ]

Unfortunately the school isn't equipped to house students at the moment. We have an old dormitory building, but it's run down, there's no water or electricity, and we lack the funds to fix it up and get it running. If the student council is able to hold another successful fundraiser, perhaps we might have a place for you, Ouma-kun.

[trialbyliar]

[Think whatever you want, lady!! It works for him!

But his face does brighten. Dang, he was just hoping to swing maybe some homecooked meals or something. If this place could actually become livable...]

Woah, really?

[He perks up, like she didn't even say all the reasons why it's not workable at the moment. Fuck that, he's the Ultimate Supreme Leader. He should at least be able to handle this much.]

So they just need to make money, right?

[adsum]

Uh.

[ The quick turnaround takes her by surprise, but anybody would be if their home situation is shit and a bright new hope was dangled in front of them, right? ]

That's the largest hurdle, yes. We've been focused on fixing up the school, that there aren't funds for anything else.

[ In before everybody goes ???why are we spending all this money getting a new elevator next month when all the characters are sleeping on the ground, maybe it's a contract thing or something idk anything about financial policy. ]

Then that's easy! I bet I can get the student council to do something, no problem!

[He's nearly bouncing on his toes now, almost disconcertingly sure of himself on this matter. Optimism sure is great, huh...?]

[ She looks so conflicted, like she doesn't want Kokichi to get his hopes up too high but at the same time, who is she to quash his hopes and dreams? So she puts a smile on for him, and resists the urge to pat his head. ]

If there's anybody who can convince them, I bet it would be you. They have a meeting after classes today, don't they? Perhaps you can catch one of them before the meeting starts.
