[her expression softens a bit, because, well. how many times has she heard sportacus explaining exactly that to trixie when she makes fun of ziggy for being a crybaby. in almost those exact words.]

Yeah, they do... [she can admit that. everyone around her is a freak and she can admit that.] But, the crying you hear from there isn't that kind. It's spooky crying. Like in scary stories about evil fairies trying to trick you into going outside.

[ Her expression twists into that one from worry again, because what are you doing over there mister counselor... ]

Some people can't help the way they sound when they cry...

[ She's picking her words carefully, like how some people have funny laughs or funny faces? you don't make fun of them for it, it's just how it is ]

But the counselor isn't a scary person, especially once you get to know them, and I find that that's true with most people. Would you like to go say hi to him? I can be there with you.

[reasonably, she should say, "no, why would I do that, I don't trust you any more than I trust him."

but, she's never actually even seen this counselor guy before, and if he's going to be A Thing now, she needs to learn more. the other transfers are counting on the fact-finding abilities of Agent Pinkie.

she nods. and then goes to hold nurse-chan's hand, because obviously you hold hands with a person when they take you places, that's just science.]

[ Oh they're going right now, okay

Nurse-chan at least looks a little more encouraged that Stephanie's willing to take her hand despite her screaming at her face just a second ago, but it's fine, children are just like that. She keeps her grip firm but not tight as she leads Stephanie next door to the counselor's and knocks on the door. ]

Mizuki?

[ There's no answer. She presses her ear against the door. Sounds of sobbing...

... ]

I think he's busy.

[she's ten she has no concept of delayed gratification.

she just. stares at the door.]

... And that isn't really creepy to you? Not even a little bit?

[ I have no concept of delayed gratification either, which is why, before the Nurse can open her mouth and answer, the door flings open and nearly smacks Stephanie in the face, Hiro hastily pushing his way through but freezing in surprise when he sees Stephanie and the nurse outside the door, himself trapped in the doorway. His eyes are rimmed red, his face pale. There's an audible sigh from inside the room. How many npcs can I put in one space at a time, let's see.

Maybe just two, because Hiro's going to try to... sneak on past the two outside the door and leave... goodbye... ]

[we could do four maya is probably here to pick up hiro and that's why stephanie doesn't even say hello because she is reasonably terrified of her.

instead, she just watches him go, expression blank.]

... That doesn't look cathartic.

The counselor slides off the desk and strides over to the door, looks at nurse-chan, looks at Stephanie ]

Finally snapped, huh? I was wondering when it'd be you. Come in, have some cashews.

well y'know at least she forgets to be scared because she immediately finds herself in the much more palatable and familiar emotion of mortally offended.]

What's that supposed to mean?!

[ The briefest of smile flits over his face before he recomposes himself, letting his head tilt and bangs fall over his eyes. ]

Was I mistaken? Pistachios, then. Though I was hoping not to share...

But, that's exactly why I'm here! Since that will never ever happen, we'd never ever say hello otherwise. And isn't that just awful, to never say hi to a person whose door you walk past all the time?

So, hi. [literally the most annoyed greeting ever uttered] You already know who I am. So, you should also know that I'm not gonna "snap." Ever.

[also she physically did the sarcasm quotes there.]

[ He glances down at her left wrist, then looks back up at her. ]

Of course not.

[ He steps back from the doorway, into his office since it doesn't look like they're here to join him for snack time. ]

It's a pleasure to meet you, Stephanie. I hope you will never need my services, but I am here for you when you do.

she notices the glance, visibly brightens, and then lifts her arm to let the sleeve fall down, showing the tally, even pointing at it vaguely proudly.]

See! That's the proof. I only have the one. There's only one explanation for it! [and she's. fine. with that. compared to the alternative.]

[ He cuts off, though, when the nurse shakes her head with a soft warning, "Mizuki..." and he sighs a little. Alright, fine, there's no counseling in session so he'll stop. ]

[she looks between them, frowning.]

Yeah, just one. And it'll stay that way. It may not be graduation material, but... I mean, I never thought I'd graduate school, anyway. It's fine. [after all, her hero training would start before then, right? she'd be too busy.]

Stephanie...

[ Oh no. No no no, nurse-chan crouches down in front of her so she can look up at her. ]

Your education is important, even if you don't believe what you learn here will help you in the future. Between the knowledge you gain inside the classroom and the skills you gain outside of it... staying in school will lead to a brighter future, I promise. Please... don't give up and drop out.

Oh, no, I'm talking about my actual school. [said vaguely snidely, like she's daring her to say boo about that objectively true fact.] "Dropping out" of this place probably involves being pushed off the roof.
