Having struck up a friendship with a lot of the less plot-relevant students, Ritsuka is going to casually steer the rumor mill during lunch in the direction of the student council and what they've been up to since the news around the murder died down. In particular, she's going to listen for news about Maya (which should be easy, considering that her brother is already a hot topic of discussion) and casually ask what the hell the student council president even does and what makes the position different compared to all the other members. She was always the weird kid who wasn't particularly inclined to yak about school politics, so the question shouldn't be too unusual.

EDIT: In addition, Ritsuka is going to try and recollect whether she heard Maya talk during the evacuation of the library, and cross reference with the other students to see if they did. If she did talk, did she move her lips? After all, she was a student council member who was directing the evacuation. If her voice wasn't noticed by anyone or her words didn't match up to her lip movements, that would be pretty unusual and worthy of note.

The other students don't openly gossip about Maya, and especially not her brother, under the very real fear that she will find out and beat them up lmao With her asking about the student council, they ask if maybe she's interested in joining? The student council as a whole plans and organizes things for the school like the charity auction, sports festival, cultural festival, etc etc, essentially making all these things happen with hands off faculty supervision. The president is at the head of all of this, and is the one who makes executive decisions, delegates tasks to the rest of the members, makes sure everything is completed properly and on time, and is essentially the one who catherds and assumes responsibility for the student council and student body as a whole.

Inside the library there is no sound, so other students aren't heard talking; in the confusion, some students may have had their mouths open or were making as if they were shouting, but out of habit rather than communication. Maya was directing students outside of the library, so she did talk, but mostly things like "Hey" and "Stop" etc and glaring at the students crowding the library.

Gudako is then going to go across the school and interview anyone related to Maya that's, uh, currently available, whether there was any time during the thirteenth that she was unaccounted for, or if anybody saw her leaving the school with everyone else on that day.

She's going to learn that Maya doesn't actually have a lot of friends, and certainly not the sort who hang out with her after school or pay attention to what she does or where she goes, especially when Ritsuka is asking about a specific day two whole weeks ago. She probably went home with her brother after everything got settled in the library? nobody can say for sure.

Another question, and I swear this is going somewhere: from what Ritsuka has seen of them, how muscular are Maya and Hiro? Maya obviously has some amount of power and core strength to be able to throw punches like that, but what about Hiro?

Both of them seem smaller than others their age and don't really do anything to show off strength. Hiro moves pretty slowly by default and shies away from physical work and appearance-wise doesn't seem that strong.

Okay. How enclosed is the crawlspace? If Ritsuka gets up in there, how far can she pull back her arm?

There's plenty of space to move side to side! It's just not very high and to travel most people would have to be on their hands and knees and crawl through the crawlspace.

Alright. Ritsuka is going to go to the crawlspace above the library, taking a knife from culinary with her, and see how much leverage and force she can get out of slamming the hilt of a knife down in such a small area. She's pretty familiar with both the average durability of a human skull and how, like, strong normal people are when they aren't slightly jacked from two years of near constant exercise, so she should be able to judge from a few swings whether somebody with normal strength would be able to crack a skull as badly as Aiko's with a similar method.

There is enough space to pull her hand back and swing the knife, so theoretically it's possible, but Aiko's injury was on the back of her head, so for that to happen in the scenario Ritsuka is trying, she'd have to be side by side somebody with her head turned away for them to reach her. Basically anything is possible if you try hard enough, but also it's highly unlikely.

Okay. Time to cover all her bases. Ritsuka will visit the vice principal and say that she's been working with Stephanie to try a find a way to humanely remove the rats, and the crawlspaces seem like a good place to start investigating, but she's not sure if they're safe. Have there been any major accidents in the crawlspaces, particularly around the library since that's where Ritsuka wants to start?

The vice principal is very ??? children should not be crawling around the crawlspaces, children, please,,,
It doesn't seem as if she's ever told anything about the crawlspaces, and she tells Ritsuka that the rat infestation and structural damage isn't something she needs to worry about, those are adult problems to take care of.

Hm. Next up, she's going to ask Chiaki and the other members of the art club if they knew where Hiro typically hung out whenever he was ditching class or club, or if they had any clues whatsoever as to his whereabouts during that time.

Hiro is part of the science club, not art, but members of both clubs say that if they're trying to find him at any given time there's a good bet that he's in the library, taking advantage of the quiet to sleep. Usually he choses somewhere out of the way to nap, and like Maya, doesn't have a large enough presence for people to pay enough attention to them and definitely say where he was/what he was doing.

One more question: is there any period of time where Maya regularly practices, alone, in the music room? (I'm really hoping there is because if that is the case we can hopefully bring this all to a conclusion soon >.>)

Theoretically, yes— she's in student council and the music club, and the survivalist club uses the music clubroom on the other days, so there may be one day a week where she's alone in the room after classes, but since club schedules aren't down on paper (I don't want to be so nitpicky about club dates and force people to thread that they're in X club on X, X, and X days of the week only) it's sort of up in the air. What were you thinking for this question?

We discussed it in DMs, so now for my next question: if Ritsuka asks around to see if anybody else has been snooping in weird ways like she has, will she turn up anything?

The general consensus is that nobody is weirder about snooping than Ritsuka is, haha. If there are people asking around or digging into things, it's done a lot subtler.
