( nene only barely pulls away, to make sure he's not- not screwing with her or something, before franticly checking for injuries or something. )

You both went missing on the 7th- it's- it's been twenty days.

[ It's hard to tell if (when might be more apt) Hanako is screwing around, but he does look sincerely confused, holding his hands out, palm up and then palm down so Nene can see both sides and see for herself that he's perfectly okay. Not covered with blood or burns or anything.

Twenty days... ]

That long, huh? Well! If Yashiro says it, it must be true!

[ In contrast to him, it's very easy to tell if Nene is screwing with him, because she doesn't ]

...I didn't mean to be gone for so long and worry you. There was something we needed to check, and it wasn't supposed to take that long at all.

( he accepts it so easily and nene pauses in her search to look at him for a moment before her shoulders hitch and she all but throws herself at him in another hug, tearing up again. )

I-I know you didn't- but you keep leaving me!

( they'll have to part someday, unless they fail in her wish- she wants as much time as possible with him while they still can, even in this place. but she forces herself to calm down, other than not letting go. )

[ He catches her in his arms, frowning over her shoulder and glad she doesn't see, because he never meant to leave her— more than once, when she's his assistant, and she was always the only one he went to when he needed somebody else there. He had little other choice, though; it was really just her or the kid, but here...

Lots of people he wouldn't be as worried about putting in harm's way. And by people I mostly mean Amami because he's the only one who's agreed to do things Hanako suggests. He could lose them, and will feel guilty about it, maybe, but not as much as if he'd lost Nene before he's able to bring her back home, a thought that makes him hug her all the tighter for it now. ]

That gardener is one of the more powerful supernaturals in this school, I'm sure of it. When we went there to deal with him, we ended up not dealing with him. [ Why is gardener-san not dead? unfathomable ]

I don't want him to be a danger to anybody here, especially when I'm not around to handle things, so I needed to find his yorishiro while he was distracted, even if we didn't end up destroying it either.

I-I was trying to watch, from one of the windows. A higher up one, where it might be safer. I couldn't really tell what was happening... And then, you guys were...

( voided, two people died, something was up with the tree?? and then something happened, and he and amami were gone. just... gone. at the thought, she presses against him a little more, tears welling up again before she blinks them away.

should she have gone with, even though she was a liability in a fight? maybe then they could have found it for sure- actually, no, hanako probably wouldn't have let her. like. at all. )

Were you able to find it?

( even if she's fond of kazuki, she'll break it if she must- )

[ There's a little grimace on his face behind her back, but while a lot of that was things he'd rather not Nene have to watch, having that outside perspective is helpful, and he did ask her to watching out for things for him.

With the wisteria tree's full branches in the way, it's hard to see anything unless from the ground floor, but there would have been enough movement to see the group that had gone out first to talk to Kazuki, maybe she saw that it was Hanako who drew first blood and got them voided or maybe not, but then everything went dark. The monster fight, the breaking of the ring, the separation of the two parties and everything that they experienced, it was all in that void. Nene, if she'd left to break a mirror, would find herself staring out the window at the group surrounding the gardener, turned from monster back to man but now with his mask off.

And then Hanako and Amami were gone.

He puts on a smile, leaning back from the hug just enough so that Nene can see him. ]

Of course I did! It should be alright to leave it alone for now, but when the time comes, you'll lend me a hand, won't you? I'll be counting on your special ability.

( even with the full branches, nene's been so intently focused on the tree, she knows where certain gaps are. so, uh- she did unfortunately have to see some things i'm sure everyone would prefer she hadn't. but she couldn't hear what was being said, or planned. she couldn't catch everything entirely. which sucks, frankly- she's tired of confusion and not having all the pieces, but at the same time...

hanako smiles for her, and despite the month of anxiety and worry eating into her and her slowly decaying mental health- he's smiling, and he's here, and relief and affection flood through her like a broken dam. she can't help but smile too, just a bit. )

Mmhm. Yeah- I'll always help... you're my favorite person, a-after all.

[ Oh. Imagining her saying it and hearing it out loud are two different things and it takes Hanako off guard for a moment, flush creeping to his cheeks that he hopes isn't too noticeable as he tries to play it off and cup Nene's cheeks in his hands, lifting just slightly so her smile is pulled a little wider. ]

You're my favorite too.

[ It goes without saying, but... maybe he can stand to say it out loud once in a while too. ]

Bwehh!!!

( that is the absolutely graceful noise she makes at him pinching at her face like that, idly papping at his arms- even if it's silly, and she wants to go back to being held, she doesn't actually mind. much.

for a few more seconds. eventually she shakes free, puffing out her cheeks with a pout before... squeezing at his hands in her own. )

... I'm glad you're back safe. I-

( needs him, can't imagine life without him- even if she'll have to face it- wants him by her side always- )

I missed you, Hanako-kun.

[ That absolutely graceful noise makes him laugh— he wouldn't say at her, but... maybe at her. It's a break from the melancholy, like a breath of fresh air after spending an hour crying under the sheets, he remembers that too. ]

Maybe I should be gone more often~ Just kidding. [ He wouldn't do that, not on purpose. ]

If you ever need me, Yashiro, you know all you have to do is call for me, and I'll be right there at your side!

And make me cry every day? How heartless... ( more pouting, with a sad sigh and everything as she looks away, touching her cheek. so heartbroken... so sad......... hanako..................

even then, she can't help but smile softly at his declaration. )

I know. You're always there for me. You're my hero, after all.
