on humanization

My character here, the Ring-Spirit (also frequently called "Yami Bakura" in YuGiOh fandom), is technically a piece of jewelry. Throughout canon he relies on his ability to possess Certain Qualified Individuals (the qualifications aren't elaborated on, only the fact that if he tries to possess someone unqualified, they incinerate from the soul outward - my best guess is he needs a host with incredibly high innate-magic power/potential) in order to do anything at all. Unless he's possessing someone (or on rare occasions, is inside a shadow-game "zone" - which he himself can't create unless he's already possessing someone anyway) he's just a large gold pendent with a minor dowsing ability.

My question is are we allowed to humanize a character? It's spelled out that it's never required, but his normal form all by its lonesome isn't exactly playable. :|a Could I just give him a human body of his own, or could I only app him jointly with his host?

A follow-up question if he does need to bring his host: would they show up still wearing his necklace-form as per how the possession thing works in canon, or would they lose the necklace entirely and just plain ol be bodysharing?
