Chiaki, granted, can be a difficult person to get along with; a lot of the other students are like that too, fiercely independent with little interest in making friends perhaps as a product of the environment. To survive in this school you need a goal, the unrelenting drive to reach that goal, and the acceptance that not everybody is going to make it.
