CHARACTER INFORMATION
Name: Zero
Canon: Drakengard 3
Canon point: Post Ending D: The Flower
Zero consumes One and allows the flower to bloom within her. The two are then transported to the "Spirit World", where giant living statues of the six Intoners appear and engage Mikhail in a rhythm game. Mikhail triumphs, and destroys them. As they disintegrate, Accord states that the power of the flower has been sealed in the spirit world, nullifying its threat to humanity, although there is still a possibility of the seal breaking one day. Accord also states that although the recording function for Zero (likely the version of Accord assigned to her) was broken, she feels sure that Zero is still alive and that they will meet again.
Age: 20
History: Full History

“My earliest memory is of my mother shouting, and the only other thing I remember from those days is being slapped around. I doubt I was fed well, either. After all, I learned to swipe a meal before I even learned to speak. If she’d been feeding me properly, I wouldn’t have been forced to steal.

My mother shouldn’t be singled out as a bad person. Only a handful of kids were lucky enough to have warm food and a bed. Unless you were born into some fancy noble household, you could kiss any hope of a life like that goodbye. You wondered why the hell you were born, grew up knowing you were a thorn in the world’s side, turned into a shitty adult, and then unwittingly wound up with a bun in the oven. That was it for most women. My mother did nothing more than raise me the best way she knew.” - Drakengard 3 Prequel Novella

Zero’s first, supposed to be, meaningful connection with her mother is littered with poverty. Not only is Zero robbed of a childhood, but of any meaningful emotional connection. Even so, the bright eyed girl still has hope that she clings to, until that too is extinguished. Her mother sells Zero into sex slavery at a young age.

Zero quickly befriends a girl named Indigo, who makes friends with Zero by giving her the name “Rose”. Together they hatch a plan for escape by stealing as much gold as they can and making a run for it, and they did. Escaping the brothel they make it to the outskirts of town, where Indigo had someone waiting for her, and it is at the point she turns on Zero, saying she only needed her to carry out more gold and she would be disposed of now. The attempt on her life is halted when the brothel owners catch up to them, and drag Zero back.

The next time Zero tries to escape, she does so alone...and killing everyone so no one could follow her or betray her. Just when she thinks she is free, she runs into bandits who rob her and almost sell her back into slavery, but she escapes them; now vowing to only take as much money as needed from now on. It was always more trouble than it was worth.

In a new city where no one should know her face, she encounters a man she recognizes from the brothel, and although she can't recall his name, they begin to share a quaint life together. Things are great until Zero contracts a contagious and deadly illness. To save himself he tries to abandon Zero, not before trying to sell her again and this time she can bring herself to kill him. She comments about how surprised he looked when she did so.

After this, as her body weakens, she wanders the land killing and stealing for what she needs. Men, women, children, she kills indiscriminately and with no real justification. Eventually due to her weakened state she is caught and imprisoned with 5 other girls. While the others are tortured to death, Zero is mostly spared...and instead succumbs to her illness; only to be revived by the mysterious “flower” that had taken root inside her.

Perhaps she was thought to be the perfect host, with her terrible life she would have hated the world and wanted to see it burn. She became a tool of destruction through which the flower sought to further its ambition of destroying humanity. It gave Zero the power of an Intoner. Zero attempted to destroy the flower by committing suicide, but that only resulted in the flower creating five more Intoners and the splitting of Zero's powers among them. Zero sees the creation of her "sisters" as her own fault, which is why she decides to kill them.

As Zero begins hunting, she meets the dragon Michael. She uses his firepower to help kill Caerula’s soldiers that Zero was dealing with. Michael was curious about the flower, as dragons are the only beings able to destroy them. After Michael tests Zero’s strength though a few different trials, he comes to the conclusion that she is worth helping. The two of them agree that he will help destroy her sisters and then he can kill her, effectively removing the flower. Her sisters have defeated the lords of the area and divided it amongst themselves. After a year of training together, Zero proceeds to the Cathedral City where her sister One resides, ready to end this once and for all.

The fight against One and her other sisters ends in complete failure. One summons Gabriela and Michael dies protecting Zero, being reborn into the dragon Mikhail and Zero loses her left arm; having it replaced with a prosthetic with the help of the Recorder Android, Accord.

Still mourning the death of Michael, arguably the only being in her life that Zero could truly love in any real capacity, she and Mikhail set out to do what Michael and Zero intended from the start. Through their adventures, Zero begins to act like a mother (sort of) to Mikhail, and eventually at the end of their journey, Mikhail fulfills her final request at the end of Brand D, effectively sealing her and her sisters inside the “Spirit World”.

Personality: As the story is initially told, Zero is described as having a violent disposition that is easily irritated, with no tolerance for anything complicated. She is open and uninhibited with men, lazy, apathetic, bitter, selfish and distrusting of everyone and everything around her. Her sense of humor is rather dark, dry and sarcastic, often opting to deliver one-liners using uncharacteristically polite language out of the blue or acting in a way that will make people let their guard down, only to yank the rug out from under them. She also has the inclination of breaking the fourth wall, often looking “into the camera” or speaking to a perceived audience when delivering punchlines.

Although it seems like Zero is very self confident, the truth of the matter is that she struggles with self worth, PTSD and survivor’s guilt. Her internal monologues often revolve around her own self loathing or mere self depreciation. Nightmares plague her sleep, relating to the loss of her first trusted partner, Michael, and her ability to trust anyone in general is greatly diminished after this same loss. Her haughty demeanor masks her guilty conscious.

She will lie, cheat, steal, murder, and (nearly) any manner of foul undertaking to get what she wants but, even she has limits. Zero never actually commits these heinous acts because she enjoys it or even really wants to; it is because she has to, to survive. Her desire to kill the other Intoners stems from a sense of responsibility she has to ensure the world does not actually get destroyed. She feels this obligation because her “sisters” are all facets of her hatred of the world, forged by many years of abuse at the hands of it. Because of this, she knows it is up to her to eliminate her own creations and then kill herself.

A few times through her journey she laments the fate of the Apostles who had shown loyalty to her, and even feels bad that she seemed to be using Mikhail for her own selfish gain. Regardless of this, she seems to always subscribe to the method of “tough love,” with a dash of selfishness added in for good measure. Zero will always look out for herself first, no matter what.

Powers/abilities:

Complete Weapon Mastery Zero has the ability to fight with all weapon types available to her, including but not limited to: Swords, Spears, Chakrams, and Claws.

Thaumaturgy As seen in the prequel manga, Utahime 5, and a few other instances, Zero is able to materialize objects using the power of the Flower and the Mercurial Gate. In the case of the Apostles, she is able to change doves to humans and back again at will.

Intoner Mode; Will to Sing When drenched in the blood of her enemies, Zero can trigger Intoner mode. This power allows her to use the power of song to boost her fighting capabilities to the absolute limit.

Perfect Regeneration Using the power of the flower that refused to allow Zero to die, Zero is able to regenerate. When taking a blow that would otherwise be fatal (from anything other than a dragon) a new Zero body will sprout from the bloody flower, good as new. If the wound isn’t fatal, she will just have accelerated regeneration on that part of the body. A failsafe, so that she almost, can not be killed by anything.

Questions:
✽ What does your character consider to be their top three strengths?
Physical Strength
Questionable morals that allow her to execute difficult choices
Determination

✽ What do others consider to be your character's greatest weakness?
Brash and reckless behavior.

✽ What are your character's three greatest fears?
Mikhail dying, being unable to die herself because Mikhail won't/cant kill her and she can't find another dragon to do it, and subsequently the world ending and it being all her (the flower's) fault. This ties into a large fear of failure. (If 2 and 3 are too close then one is more fear of abandonment).

✽ What would your character choose for a last meal?
Zero wouldn't care about something so superficial.

✽ Has your character ever killed? If so, how did that affect them? If not, how would it affect them?
She has killed many times, even when she was still human. She killed out of the need to survive, not because she was a psychopath. She massacred entire families to ensure that no one would come after her seeking revenge, even if it included women and children. She has been questioned about it before, but she just comments that she is a bad person and has no real reason other than making her life easier in the long run.

✽ If your character was given one selfish wish (eg. must be applied to themselves and not affect others), what would it be?
To die, but really that just means to be absolved of the responsibility of housing the eldritch abomination (the flower) that is trying to end the world.
