CHARACTER INFORMATION
Name: Sherlock Holmes - Ruler
Canon: Fate/Grand Order
Canon point: Between Lostbelt 1 & 2
Age: Appears 27
History: a bit, but the wiki isn't the most reliable so sorry.

Sherlock Holmes often dodges the question if he is real or not, but there is more evidence that he exists than not in the world of Fate. In life, he was quite familiar with the Mage’s society of London, and some of his most famous cases had supernatural elements that Watson had rewritten to hide from greater society. After surviving his confrontation with Moriarty at Reichenbach falls, he remained out of sight for three years in what is known as the “Great Hiatus”, meeting an old acquaintance Helena Blavatsky in the Himalayas, only for her to tie in his arms when she was assassinated by Clocktower Mages. During his time in Tibet, he seemed to have picked up on Tibetan Buddhist mysticism, but otherwise he is evasive about that he had done in this period of life.

As a Servant (or perhaps a human version of him in that singularity, the game leaves it ambiguous), he first is mentioned in Fate in the London Singularity where he left a note for Chaldea, providing information on their enemy on behalf of his client. He then appears in person during the Camelot singularity after the first Hassan directed them to the ruins of Atlas Institute – while he declined to join them because of the case he’s working on, he does however provide them with information and some possible leads before departing.

Sherlock then appears in the pseudo-singularity Shinjuku where he disguised himself as Edmund Dantes because he sensed the presence of James Moriarty, when Ritsuka saw through his disguise when he rescued her, he ends up reluctantly cooperating with his amnesiac “Good side” rival to fight the purely evil version of Moriarty, only to nearly get absorbed by the professor when the latter reveal the whole good and evil side was an elaborate trap intended to kill him, but Ritsuka’s trust in Moriarty’s goodness and a really oddball back up plan made this scheme fail, and this time, Sherlock finally joined Chaldea as a consultant and advisor.

Sensing that something terrible was going to happen, he asked Da Vinci to not put any records of his existence in the database and kept himself hidden when Servants were being unsummoned during the process of handing Chaldea over. And he was right, as during the handover they were ambushed by TV and the entire world was blanked out by The Alien God, leaving only those who made it to the Shadow Border alive.

Personality: There’s some slight differences in how he presents himself in Japanese and the English Translation – more formal and colder in Japanese, warmer and blunt in English, so will be splitting down the middle.

Sherlock Holmes is a very difficult man to get along with. At first brush, he’s a very polite gentleman who is focused entirely on solving problems, and frustratingly tight-lipped about what is going on in his mind. He tends to prefer to play the role of observer and consultant, claiming he that he is not a combatant – a blatant lie. While he denies it, there is some truth to the accusations that he enjoys the idea that he’s the smartest person in the room and has visibly preen when he’s praised for his deductions. However, he does express discomfort when he’s called a hero or described using heroic terms.

While he is generally polite in how he speaks, it doesn’t mean he’s the epitome of good manners or tact. Sherlock has on more than one occasion put his entire leg in his mouth because he starts saying something that while true isn’t necessarily nice and unless stopped he keeps digging himself deeper trying to explain himself, and he tends to be quite blunt even rude if he’s trying to focus on something and someone interrupts him. He also has a mischievous streak for the most part he keeps hidden, like disguising himself as Da Vinci to send Ritsuka on a wild goose chase when they were looking for him and being 100% on board with Moriarty’s “Sexy outfit” plan in Shinjuku.

Sherlock is incredibly curious as befits a detective and is constantly trying to get his hands in as many projects or research as possible, detesting boredom. Unfortunately, this paired with an addictive personality means he can get caught up in an reward feedback loop if he’s not careful, and he has in fact taken drugs to stave off boredom (so he’s going to be going through withdrawal for the first week or two of Yogen).

Someone that can gets past his barrier will find that he is an extremely loyal man, willing to throw himself in harm’s way to protect them and can lose himself in rage and worry if they are badly hurt. Conversely, this means he will keep his own problems to himself because he does not want other people to worry or risk themselves for him.

Powers/abilities:
Sherlock Holmes like many Heroic spirits is stronger, faster, and more durable than a typical human being and is capable of temporarily of assuming an invisible and incorporeal spirit form and in normal circumstances… he should require a contract to a Master or a high source of mana to continue to manifest.

In terms of non-powered abilities, he is a proficient practitioner of Baritsu (a misspelling of the real-life Bartitsu) a martial art that mixes cane-fighting, French kickboxing (Savante), Jiu jitsu and normal boxing, making him proficient especially when it comes to kicks, throws, and beating one senseless with a cane, in the books he’s known to be a decent enough shot to shoot V.R into his wall and a fencer, both reflected in side materials claiming he could be summoned as a Saber or Archer aside from Caster and Ruler.

And naturally being that he is one of the most famous Detectives, he has keen analytical mind and a nearly encyclopedic knowledge of anatomy, chemistry, and biology as required.
The Detective has a few unique abilities that’s unique to him and are as follows:
Territory Creation EX: Unlike most caster-type Servants who can claim a section of land and turn into their turf, Sherlock’s manifests inside his mind as a Library where everything he researches, sees, or reads are filed away for later use effectively giving him roughly perfect recall (This basically functions like his Archives in the original stories).

The Empty House: A secondary Noble Phantasm (essentially a super move) where Sherlock Holmes can perfectly disguise himself, appearance, voice, body language however he cannot imitate their abilities and if he is unfamiliar with he subject of his disguise he can still give himself away by acting out of character for his disguise.

Elementary My Dear: His primary Noble Phantasm, and one dangerous enough to be listed as Anti-World. In the world of Fate/ Magic requires the concept of Mystery to exist, that the less people understand how it works, the more stable and powerful magic is.
What Elementary does is it shows a path to a solution, or if no solution is possible (for example a key is lost), it creates one (the key is no longer lost) – however, it does not solve the problem for him, Sherlock or an associate has to do the mental and physical legwork to act on the information provided. In game terms, this ability both provides his ability to pierce through defenses and decrease the enemy’s defensive ability. In theory, according to side materials if he was summoned as a Caster instead of a ruler, he could essentially delete Mystery (and Nasu-type magic along with it).

On a purely flavor text note: Sherlock Holmes has learned animal communication for the sole purpose of being able to talk to dogs.

Questions: may be written icly as the character or oocly as the player; please limit to maximum 5 sentences each

✽ What does your character consider to be their top three strengths?
Staying calm under pressure, if one panics or get swept up in emotions, one will miss the finer details or make things worse.
And many will say curiosity is a weakness – ‘killed the cat’ so the speak, but I consider it a strength as curiosity leads to exploration, to new information, to finding solutions and answers.
And I like to think I am capable of being unbiased and even-handed in how I view things, allowing myself not to be swayed by my emotions.

✽ What do others consider to be your character's greatest weakness?
OOC:
Sherlock Holmes’ most obvious flaw is his pride and vanity, he often boasts of his deductive ability, and is susceptible to flattery, practically preening at positive attention.

Secondly, he has no sense of self-preservation – taking no mind of his needs, working himself to exhaustion, and views his physical body as expendable.

Secretive, he is extremely secretive leading him to come off as shady and duplicitous – he only explains things when he’s entirely confident in his theory and keeps dodging the question of his existence prior to being a servant. He also keeps everything he feels bottled up because he sees no need in sharing emotional ‘weakness’.

✽ What are your character's three greatest fears?
Being catastrophically wrong – not just being in error – even I am not infallible in my deductions, but I fear the day that my arrogance and foolishness exacts a heavy price, especially if it’s someone’s life.

I exist as a detective, my reason for being is to deduce and resolve mystery. If my mind goes, if my senses go, what good am I?

…I am not someone that is easy to get along with, so the few that choose my companionship despite what I am are those I cannot lose – I cannot stand to see another friend die.

✽ What would your character choose for a last meal?
Oysters Rockefeller and Fino Sherry.

✽ Has your character ever killed? If so, how did that affect them? If not, how would it affect them?
IC: Ask the professor.

OOC: Okay, as tempting as it is to leave it like that, you can’t talk about Holmes without mentioning how Moriarty died fighting him at Reichenbach falls. He also came close to killing Helena’s assassins in a fit of rage until she begged him not to, aside from a questionably written event where Sherlock is drunk, he does not really like to talk about it, and when dealing with the Lostbelts, he’s shown to hate ending the worlds but view it as a necessary evil of restoring the Pan-Human History. Like everything else, he bottles it up.

✽ If your character was given one selfish wish (eg. must be applied to themselves and not affect others), what would it be?

…A selfish wish? And it is only for myself…? I’m afraid I can’t answer that, I really have no idea what to wish for.
