CHARACTER INFORMATION Name: Kai Hiwatari Canon: Beyblade (anime adaption) Canon point: Just after the end of season 1 Age: 12 History:Wiki page.
Personality: It’s not just Kai’s appearance that makes him stand out – his immediate personality is rather striking, too. He’s a blunt, quiet kid with a bit of an attitude problem, and he has no problem stating exactly what he thinks about any given person or situation, even if it’s rude to do so. He comes across as older to others than he actually is, and he’s normally rather cool-headed, able to think situations through and analyze what’s happening around him even in stressful situations.
Other people see him as strong and mysterious, as he doesn’t like to share much about himself or how he feels about others. However, those close to him also know that deep down, he’s a good person who’ll always step up to help them in their time of need. And he’s done this time and time again – often stepping in to protect his Beyblading team both physically or when they need help in a battle.
Kai doesn’t seem to care about people’s feelings at first glance, but despite appearances, he quickly grew attached to his team and often went out of his way to help them out – however, he’d never admit that he actually cared about them and would often make excuses for his actions. However, after his team saved him from drowning and accepted him back as one of them despite him having betrayed them for another team, he learned to accept and value their friendship, and became much more open about the fact that he considers them his friends.
Kai is also extremely prideful. He’s a strong Beyblader and he knows it, and one of his greatest motivations in the past has been to become the strongest Blader of all. For the longest time, he greatly valued strength and the idea of being better than other people, and he was willing to hurt other people and become a pawn to those who wanted to use him if it meant that he could become stronger. However, he’s since learned that power and victory isn’t the most important thing in the world, and his motivations have shifted to be more about protecting and fighting for his friends. He still has a competitive spirit, however, and immediately challenged his friend Takao to a beybattle after the championships were over.
Kai doesn’t see himself as a particularly good person, but he does see himself as both powerful and capable, though he does sometimes wonder if he’s deserving of the friendships that he’s gained with his team. Even after his character development, he’s still someone who’s naturally guarded and doesn’t tend to let people in, and he still doesn’t hesitate to be both blunt and rude with others.
He sees the world as a harsh place, one where it’s very easy to become hurt if you’re not strong enough, and while he has recently learned to value friendship, this perspective of his hasn’t changed. He has a lot of repressed trauma that he’s trying to work through as a result of his past, where he was emotionally abused and used by his grandfather, and treated like a child soldier by Borg in their attempts to rule the world through Beyblades, often exposed to horrific conditions and training from an early age.
Most of his goals revolve around Beyblading – and he wants to become a stronger Blader himself as well as helping his team to become stronger as well. Outside of Beyblading, he becomes more uncertain about what he wants to do with himself, as Beyblade has been such a defining part of his world for so long.
Powers/abilities: Kai is exceptionally physically fit and knows how to fight well as a result of his background, where he was trained from birth to be a merciless, powerful Blader and “soldier” for the organisation Borg. However, he’s also still a child, meaning that he could likely be overpowered by adults experienced in fighting, and his abilities are certainly nothing supernatural.
He’s also a world-class Beyblader, considered to be one of the strongest in the world.
Questions: ✽ What does your character consider to be their top three strengths? My top three strengths? What an interesting question. …I’m a strong Blader, I never give up, and I’m able to think clearly about what’s needed in any situation. How about that?
✽ What do others consider to be your character's greatest weakness? …To be honest, I’m not really concerned with what others think of me. I suppose that most people see me as a cold person who doesn’t care about others… though my team would disagree. As for what they’d see as my weakness – I don’t know. I honestly think they look up to me a bit too much.
✽ What are your character's three greatest fears? …That’s none of your business. But if you have to know… I’d say that the thought of Borg and my grandfather coming back and gaining power over me is more… unsettling a thought than I want to admit. Then, there’s losing my friends… or becoming the person that I used to be again.
✽ What would your character choose for a last meal? What a morbid question. It doesn’t particularly matter, does it? I’ll just choose whatever’s on my mind at the time.
✽ Has your character ever killed? If so, how did that affect them? If not, how would it affect them? I… I don’t know. I don’t- remember killing anyone… but I know that… there may very well be people dead because of me. Back in the Abbey… The thought of it makes me feel sick. Can I really be forgiven for that?
✽ If your character was given one selfish wish (eg. must be applied to themselves and not affect others), what would it be? Ha. Even now, I can tell deep down that I still want what I’ve always wanted – to become a stronger Blader. But… I don’t think that’s what I’d wish for anymore. There’s no point if I don’t achieve that strength myself, so I… I don’t know what I’d want.
