Age: 16

History: Wiki page. (cw for animated blood/violence in the link)
Personality: Satoko is by nature an energetic, mischievous, and somewhat arrogant girl who has a penchant for setting and using traps on people. She’s cheerful, and this personality of hers makes people either perceive her as lovable or as a bit of a brat. She’s witty and clever, being generally extremely crafty, but struggles at school and in learning things she isn’t interested in. She is very loyal to the people she cares about and would do anything to protect them, but she also has a darker side to her – and she is willing to be vicious and ruthless to those who she hates. Underneath her happy exterior, however, Satoko is actually a very unstable person with a lot of trauma.

In terms of her motivations, strength is one of the things that Satoko values most, and one of her biggest motivations is to get stronger, in order to prevent herself from hurting the ones she cares about. When she was young, she was abused by her aunt, and would rely on her brother to protect her from the harshest parts of that abuse – but this took a toll on him, and he started to hate the fact that she was so dependent on him. When he disappeared, Satoko became convinced that it was her fault, and that he must’ve ran away because she was weak, with her continued dependence on him hurting him greatly.

Sometimes this motivation to become strong is good, as it gives her a goal to work towards, and it helps her cope with her trauma as she feels like there was a meaning to her suffering – that it was needed in order for her to learn how to be strong. However, she takes this desire to be strong to extremes. In the timelines when her uncle returned and began to abuse her again, Satoko refused to seek help, believing it would make her weak, and she tries to be independent even when she’s in situations where she can’t do things on her own – often ending in disaster.

Her other motivation is simply to live a happy life with her friends in Hinamizawa. However, she has abandonment issues as a result of her brother’s disappearance and the constant divorces and re-marriages of her mother that make this difficult. For example, Rika asked Satoko to come with her to a school named St. Lucia’s, Satoko agreed despite not really wanting to go, because she couldn’t bear the thought of being away from Rika. Then, as her friends started to drift away from her, she felt deeply hurt, and she grew bitter towards Rika in particular who she saw as having betrayed her.

Satoko sees the world as a cruel place, but one where she can be happy – as long as she has her friends by her side. She sees them as a family and is extremely dependent on them for her continued happiness and stability of mind. She is slow to trust strangers due to the ways that she has been hurt in the past, and while pre-canon and during most of Higurashi’s arcs she’s not okay with murder, this changes drastically when under the influence of Hinamizawa Syndrome and after she gains the ability to loop through time. She’s able to empathize with others and doesn’t generally like to hurt them, trying to live her life as someone who isn’t a burden on those she cares about - but she is willing to become vengeful when someone has angered her.

When under stress and when angry, Satoko is harsh and lashes out at those around her. She grows angry and desperate and is more likely to become violent – as her Hinamizawa Syndrome left her with permanent brain damage that means she’s more likely to have extreme responses to stress compared to other people. These responses include increased paranoia and increased levels of violent behaviour from Satoko.

Satoko perceives herself as someone who’s different from who she used to be. On the one hand, she sees herself as deserving of punishment for the way she was weak in the past, and this can be seen in the way that she takes the abuse of her uncle when he returns and begins to hurt her. On the other hand, she recognizes that she has changed, and is confident in her own abilities, managing to remain cheerful in spite of everything she has been through because of her friends and her determination to be strong.

Powers/abilities: Satoko is very skilled at creating traps, which she uses to great effect on other people – she’s seemingly able to trigger them out of nowhere and always seems to have one prepared, though this ability is by no means supernatural. She’s able to use the environment to her advantage and is good at analyzing people and predicting what they’ll do next.

She’s also reasonably physically fit and sporty, though she’s not an experienced fighter, and would likely be overpowered in a fight with adults if she didn’t have the ability to use her traps.

Questions:
✽ What does your character consider to be their top three strengths?
Ohohohoho! You want to know my strengths? Well, to start with I must say that I’m quite crafty. I’ll do whatever it takes to gain victory, and I don’t give up even when the cards are stacked against me. As for a third strength, well – I think I’m very independent, too.

✽ What do others consider to be your character's greatest weakness?
Other people? Hmm… I suppose they might see me as overconfident… It’s not like I underestimate others, but I have been known to get ahead of myself and assume my own success in certain situations before it’s guaranteed.

✽ What are your character's three greatest fears?
My fears… I think the idea of having my friends taken away from me – that scares me more than anything. On top of that, the idea of finding my brother dead, or… having my uncle return… I want to believe that those things would never happen, but they’re quite frightening thoughts...

✽ What would your character choose for a last meal?
To be honest, I’m not quite sure. I wonder if they would allow me to cook something myself? I suspect they wouldn’t, but to be honest, I would likely just ask for my favourite meal. I suppose that’s the obvious answer, isn’t it?

✽ Has your character ever killed? If so, how did that affect them? If not, how would it affect them?
Killed? Who do you take me for? I’ve never killed anyone in my life! [ ooc: this isn’t true - Satoko killed her own parents under the affects of Hinamizawa Syndrome, and this event was so traumatic to her that she repressed the memories of it completely. ]

✽ If your character was given one selfish wish (eg. must be applied to themselves and not affect others), what would it be?
I… can’t think of something that doesn’t affect others. My selfish wish… I think it would be for my brother to return to me. But that affects him, does it not? If not that, I think I would wish that I would never lose my friends and the people important to me.
