GAME LORE
Game lore discovered by characters may be learned through threaded or handwaved character interaction, or through an IC powerpoint presentation. While there are many points of interest in the game that range from significant events in the past to students from the future, the very basic rundown as of March 2022 is as follows:

✽ Yogen was established in 1384, and the wisteria tree in the courtyard was planted by the school's first graduating class. Back then, three of the teachers included the current counselor, nurse, and gardener, and the school was more of a daycare of only a handful of young students than a school proper. The original school building was where the dormitory now stands, with the current main school building constructed afterwards as the number of students increased. The school was reportedly normal in its early years.

✽ In July 1517, a large fire broke out and devastated the school, with all its students trapped within its walls due to the windows and doors all being locked. The entire student population was killed, and everything burned down except the outer walls of the school; evidence of the fire can still be seen around the school. Arson was suspected but never confirmed. This fire marks a turning point towards the current state of the school.

✽ The in-game year is currently 2000, with the first year of the game spanning March 1999 - March 2000.

✽ Students have tally marks on the inside of their left wrist, and these marks represent deaths, both experienced and caused, although there is no differentiating the two. If a person dies and their body is entrusted to the student council, they will construct a "gorinto" in the person's memory. Touching the gorinto allows one to relive the dead's final moments, and a certain coin (purchased from the student store or occasionally found around the school) can be used to speak with the dead or manifest them as a ghost, depending on which side of the coin faces up.

✽ The wisteria tree in the courtyard is a harbor for souls. In most cases when students die, their souls get drawn to the wisteria tree and exist as the glowing blue flowers until they eventually return as a student. This process can taken anywhere from two months to several years. It is rumored that certain people, items, or places act as "anchors" that draw the soul back to the school. Students who die and later return typically do not remember any of their time at Yogen, although this is not always the case and those who forget sometimes later remember. When bodies are thrown into the void in the other version of the school, those people never return at all.

✽ The other instance where people leave and do not return is graduation, which have different criteria from year to year depending on a contract the student council president makes with the school. Graduation reportedly comes with the granting of a small wish and the soul leaves for reincarnation, although this is not confirmed.

✽ All students are here because they have died in their past life, and the school exists as "limbo" before reincarnation. The exact criteria for reincarnation is not confirmed and is likely fluid, and it is also unknown whether reincarnation is the only fate that exists.

NPCs
As the game progresses, different npc faculty and students will become available for threading. For a full list of NPCs or to request a thread, please visit the NPC contact page. Threads may be cut short due to mod availability, so please have a reason in mind for the interaction.
Students
Yumemi Minazuki: A student in class 1-D. An earnest and straightforward girl who falls in love easily. She seems to attract odd occurrences, and claims that she uses fortune telling to tell how the day will go. Computer Science is one of her electives, and it seems that she was one of the students who was saved by transfer students' efforts after failing her final. Unlike the other native students, she has hazel eyes.
Faculty
"Kazuki": The gardener is a spirit which appears in the courtyard during the night. He can not normally be seen, unless a character has the ability to see spirits, owns an adderstone through which they can see spirits, or visits the courtyard during nights of the full moon. Those who have spirit sight or see him during the full moon will see him in his human form; through an adderstone or within the "void" version of the school, the gardener appears in his true form as a man-eating monster. The gardener is blind, and only darkness can be seen in the eye holes of his mask. Rumor has it that the gardener has used to be employed as a teacher before becoming the gardener, and has been around almost as long as the counselor. He is patient and understanding, and is fond of the students.
"Mizuki" Arata: The counselor is available during school hours, answering to a knock on the door with permission to enter. While the counselor typically sits on top of his desk, there are a variety of chairs in the office to choose from, and he will always offer to share his snack bowl. All supernatural powers are nullified within his office. Rumor has it that the counselor founded the school and is aware of everything that goes on in the school at any given moment. He can be difficult to talk with, but always seems to be having fun.

Other
"God": "God" can be visited at the shrine accessed from within the forest, and will introduce themselves as Jizo, the deity who guides souls through the afterlife, particularly those of children and travelers. They take on the appearance of a middle school child, and although their power is limited, they may grant a wish for a price, and otherwise seems to enjoy company
A fluffy white cat: Very friendly and will come running seemingly out of nowhere when food is being offered. She can otherwise be found seeking out warm sunny spots within the school, and enjoys being kissed and petted but not held. She is called by many many names, including Lily Mayhemnaise, Lucy, Lucifer, Whitey, Yuki, Cygnus, Sweetheart, and Emerald Moon, but does not actually respond to any of them.
A skinny black cat: Wary and skittish, and will occasionally come eat the leftovers after the fluffy white cat has eaten her share. He can otherwise be found perched up on high places out of reach, but will run away if approached. He appears to be small and skinny enough to squeeze through gaps underneath doors and other places, and is occasionally seen in the counselor's office or rooftop. He is called by many many names, including Beverage, Belphegor, Blacky, Yoru, Robbie, Crux, Sweetheart, and Citrine Blizzard, but does not actually respond to any of them.
